"Eating Japanese Heritage?!"
The Energy Source for Workers: "TANTETSUKO Meals"
Introducing the "Tantetsuko Meal" recommended by Ms. Mami Uemura, a Hokkaido Assembly Member who loves Hokkaido and Sorachi, and hails from Akabira City! The "Tantetsuko Meal" is available for breakfast and lunch at the BAR & GRILL Splish in SAPPORO STREAM HOTEL.
Since the Meiji era, Japan's rapid modernization was supported by Hokkaido's coal, steel, ports, and the railway network that connected them. The food culture that became the source of nutrition for the workers, who were the protagonists of these stories called "Tantetsuko," involving coal ("Tan"), steel and railways ("Tetsu"), and ports ("Ko"), has created unique dishes in each region and continues to breathe life into the lives of people today. We introduce the "Tantetsuko Meal," still loved by the people of Hokkaido.

Muroran yakitori
Muroran was the port where coal from Sorachi was shipped to Honshu. In 1907, Nippon Steel Works was established and "Muroran, the City of Iron" was born. "Muroran yakitori" was loved by the factory workers. It is no longer a standard gourmet dish in Hokkaido, but the meat is pork, not chicken, even though it is called yakitori. Pork and onions, grilled on skewers with sweet and spicy sauce, and dipped in spicy sauce...both beer and rice go down a treat. You can eat it in Sapporo City, but why not visit the area and enjoy it with a night view of the factory?
